During the hot Virginia summer, the grass burns and becomes yellow. It's high-maintenance and an eyesore. This proposal reduces the amount of lawn, which reduces the amount of water and maintenance from Geeta. It echoes the backyard faux-creek, and introduces small hills (also known as berms) covered in ornamental grasses, creating a miniature of the nearby James River as it winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Now that Geeta's children are grown up, the needs of the backyard have changed. I was inspired by my research on a trip to Phoenix to incorporate a xeriscaped faux-creek, that builds on the original design to create a sense of enclosure for the back patio.
I combined the natural landmarks and shapes of the Lynchburg area with water-saving strategies I studied in Phoenix, Arizona.
